I knew this one is coming, even I really didnt want to write a yearly review, perhaps that was because I was afraid that nothing much to write about.

Anyway, here I come.

June, five years of being vegetarian, and I dont really feel I havent eaten any meat for that long. If I recall correctly, I did crave when I just started, but now, pictures of meat or fish are just pictures to me. I can watch cooking video and look at the final product, but not a thought of wanting to eat those even I know they are delicious. They are just food I dont eat.

When I switched back to be vegetarian from vegan over a year ago, I had to adjust to the taste of eggs, it was acquired taste. Now, I am getting used to them. As for milk, funny thing is I cant really drink, milk has to be at least heated, or I will have to go sit on toilet for a while. Still, I am forcing myself to eat or cook with dairy products and eggs, always that feeling, they are truly the nutrients I need more than the ingredients to make food delicious.

October, I decided to quit beer, coffee, tea, and sugary drinks for whatever reason that I didnt even know. Just like a snap of finger, a thought was formed, and thats it. However, its not a strict rule. I had had a cup of tea, and a couple of drinks that had added sugar. But, its not like I wanted to drink, I was just on vacuum duty, didnt want them go to waste when they were about to go past the dates.

November, no more dramas. I stopped watching television shows and films, not sure why, but maybe thats because of a conversation I had with someone on YouTube a while earlier, who told me that he hadnt watched television for some time. Two months later, I cant say I feel missing anything, but I wished I had not quit everything. Some shows are not for entertainment.

Thats about what I want to write.

Yes, I know it's still 2012. When the clock tells me it's 2013, I will be too lazy to summarize it. Besides, Doomsdays is coming, we probably wouldn't have seen the new year. Yeap, I know. Again. Only silly people will believe Doomsdays is true, right? How could they not see the real threat is Juno?

Moving the range one month ahead, so when it's said 2012 in this post, it means from December, 2011 to November, 2012. First, starts with the summary in case you just want to read the numbers.

Only 321 words per post, it's not very long. I wish my posts will reach 1,000 words in average in the future, though I won't keep that in mind when writing. Blogging shouldn't be like that, it should go with the flow of mood, not the word count.

Numbers from Google Analytics

Compare to 2011, the numbers are doubled, even four months have no new posts. In Blogger Stats, the pageviews are 172,645, that's 42.7% more than 120,945 in Google Analytics.

Top posts haven't changed much, three posts written in 2012 got into the list.

As for traffic sources, more people from search engine, which is not what I wanted at all.

Television shows and films

In 2012, I watched 1,240 episodes of television shows and 29 films. Just for rough average number 1,240 * 1h + 29 * 2h = 1,240 hours + 58 hours ~= 54 days.

Holy cow, 54 days! I spent two months on watching television shows and films in 2012.

I wish I was wrong but I took very detail records. After I watch an episode, I use VimNotes to take a record with timestamp. One episode per line, so grep and wc can get the correct numbers. I have been keeping record since October, 2010.

If I was able to count my time spent on YouTube, that would definitely contribute a lot.

It's season 5 of Castle and I was surprised to realize that Richard Castle did have published books, you know the ones have inks printed on papers. He even has a page on Amazon [reflink].

After good four seasons and an almost half, you can imagine how amazed I was when I found out of this. I now I believe those books shown in the show are actual printed books. I used to think, they did actually design book cover props.

Look at the introduction on the Amazon page:

Richard Castle is the author of numerous bestsellers, including the critically acclaimed Derrick Storm series. His first novel, In a Hail of Bullets, published while he was still in college, received the Nom DePlume Society's prestigious Tom Straw Award for Mystery Literature. Castle currently lives in Manhattan with his daughter and mother, both of whom infuse his life with humor and inspiration.

If you have never heard of Castle, you probably would believe this is a real person, not just some television fictional character. One book even achieved #6 bestseller on New York Times' list.

Yes, I still watch Castle, even it's become a typical long-lasting-but-should-have-been-ended show. I really think a television show should have only three seasons at most if each season consists of up to 13 episodes. I like British shows more, each episode contains only essential story, don't have many arcs or non-plot story.

Anyway, it's still fun to watch, because when shows become lengthy, the writer would put more humor in. It may be silly or dumb, but it's a television show, don't expect more than that. One thing I want to note down, I feel the actors somewhat intentionally advertise some products by holding them in hang, and the products stay in screen for a few really long seconds.

By the way, an excerpt from Naked Heat (Nikki Heat) [reflink]:

Perfect. He took the marker and reached for her magazine.
No, sign this! She took a step closer and tugged aside the cup of her halter.
Rook smiled. I think Im going to need more ink.

That's the Richard we all know. I seem to recall the scene from an episode.

It's an old-style police drama about homicide detectives. Nothing fancy about technology, no impressive huge projector (could somebody turn on the light?), no vast computer monitor (it would take you 3.1415926 seconds to walk from end to end of that monitor), no incredible multi-touch screen (ain't your hands tired?), no Windows-7-like gradient or translucency filter (my eyes hurt), no RSA-encrytion break (give me a break really), no tap-in into analogous CCTV (how on Earth they could do that, psychic?), just simple and straight into the point of a show like this should be.

I was wondering recently, why would so many police drama shows have to make up a lot of sci-fi equipment/interface stuff? It's not as if you can't have hi-tech stuff, but they really over-do and ridiculous exaggerate.

The first one I saw which has been under control is Chase. It has a great start, especially the first fight scene. I noticed the actress also played in Past Life, which I only watched the first episode. The bad guy was from The Beast, good show, but he looked more like bad guy in The Beast. Anyway, after starting, it became average.

Then Hawaii Five-0, a re-imagining version, its pace was too fast for pilot episode, I felt they rushed to put everything into place in just one episode. I don't know if that's what the original does, but it just don't make sense to me. In the end of first episode, they were cleaning up the office, where the heck those documents from? Those were like records or reports after ten years work. The leading actor, you should know he is the doctor from Three Rivers, cancelled, it had a lot of fancy stuff and the characters settings were really strange, but I watched whole season.

Back to Detroit 1-8-7, since it goes back the most important element of a show, it all depends on how the actors act. I think they are good. The only flaw in my opinion is the thing that Det. Finch has for Det. Sanchez, that really ruined the first episode. Why would writers always put love affection in every show?

Is it true that you can find many different caliber casings on a bridge in Detroit?

... there will be some shows end their seasons or take a short break and some others start or resume.

Ben dies (I guess) in Covert Affairs, Henry continues Unnatural History, Myka quits her job in Warehouse 13, and Mozzie assassinated in White Collar. I love these four, hope none of them got cancelled.

But Supernatural is back

Supernatural
(sidenote: I just knew Google owns Picnik (bought this March) via this post)

, as well as Chuck, NCIS, NCIS: LA, Stargate: Universe, and The Big Bang Theory. CSI and its spin-offs have come back but I don't watch them anymore.

There are more new shows, what a busy season would be!

I just watched the first episode of The Big C, I think the "C" is also for cancer, right? You can watch it on IMDb or YouTube.

I didn't know why I watched it, it's not a usual show I would like to watch especially it could be around very sad and ended up with tears. Well, it's not so bad and not so boring or slow pace as I expected.

Some people posted about Breaking Bad in comparison, I have almost forgotten that show which I stopped watching few episode before season two final. (or I stopped watching after final?) It's not because BB is a poor show but it's quite awesome and tense, I could bear watching more.

Another show was mentioned is the Weed, I have never watched it because it's already aired for a few seasons after BB.

There are few similarities in between BB and The Big C. Both leading role have cancer, both are high school teacher, both have kids with problems (In BB, it's not like the kid is bad), and probably some more. However, they are two different shows to me. I still don't know the whole point in Big C, life with cancer? life before death? living out of box?

Anyway, I think I would like to watch a few more episodes.

PS. I didn't know you need a permit to build a swimming pool.

Legend of the Seeker [IMDb, Wikipedia] is a TV series based on The Sword of Truth, a novel series.

I never watched a show about epic world, full of magical power, warriors, wizards, strange creatures, and others we have seen in movies. I wonder if this show has something from The Lord of the Rings in spirit of art or visual effects.

It's shot in New Zealand, a beautiful country. There are many stunning scenes in the show. Bullet Time is used many times. However, it's not so magical, most time I saw is the fire spell. I was expecting more than that. But fighting scenes are good.

Are all Confessors good at fighting? Anyway, when Kahlan confesses a person, the pupils become full black, then the whole eye. I believe that I saw X-Files' shadows. Wait, that's black floating stuff. That should be Supernatural's shadows.

It doesn't have much can make you LOL, but it's not boring at all. Maybe this is because it's new type of show for me.
